Diaspora Project 1 – Tears of our Mothers

October 19 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm BST

Back to Roots – Transgenerational Diaspora Life

The first in a series of four Ancestral Constellations workshops focused on transgenerational family life. We will explore our maternal and paternal lines in more depth. And we will create space to reflect on their journeys from there to here and what they found when they arrived. Now after 40/50/60 years many people are returning home or have passed on. What are we left with, and what can we do to support our ancestral family line and the next generation? Each workshop will be centred on one theme……

In October 2024 we will look at The Tears of our Mothers. Yes, there was pain, struggle and toil, the saying ‘a woman’s work is never done’ was fitting for many generations of women, but there was also joy and love and solace in family life.

In December 2024 we will look at The Fears of our Fathers. They often came first and created the space for family to come later. Sometimes they did not return and the family wondered what had happened. Often they struggled through oppressive and discriminatory societal practices

In March 2025 we will look at Siblings here and Siblings there, those who came before and those who came after and everything that happened to them in-between places. And we can ask questions about what influences remain for future generations of siblings.

In June 2025 we will look at the role of Elders/grandparents, Grandparents and sometimes Great-grandparents are a central part of many Diaspora communities. They support, give advice and often send messages down the generations when they are not present. We will celebrate the role of grandparents and elders in family life and ask the question, ‘What messages do the elders have for us, past and present?’

Overview of Ancestral Constellations Workshops

Many past workshops have brought children of the Diaspora, who wanted to look at their place of identity and belonging in the UK, Europe and Western societies. Their parents came from the Caribbean, from India, the wider Asian continent and from Africa. Later the second, third and fourth generations began to explore their current family system, wanting to learn from past transgenerational lives. How do we honour their journey and continue our traditions?

During the workshops, we will look wider at our communities and will set up constellation healing rituals that look at societal pressures on Diaspora family life, then and now! In a time of great change, we cannot forget the future and what our children and our children’s, children need and want from the future. Together we can look at the past, its influence on the present, and what the ancestral line can tell us about the potential for the future.

What You Can Expect from a Workshop

To those new to the ancestral constellation approach, there will be an opportunity to explore a deep healing process. For those of you who have worked with this method before, there is a chance to come again and support others in a gathering of like-minded people. We will work with the issues that are presented on the day from within the group. Some constellations may be generated from a group member, others we may co-create, either way, we will all be working on our transgenerational issues together, listening to the whispers of our ancestors and their messages of support to help guide the ancestral line towards health and healing.
